Stanislao G. Pugliese is professor of modern European history at Hofstra University. In the spring of 2001, he was a visiting research fellow at the Italian Academy for Advanced Studies at Columbia University; in the summer of 2003 he was a visiting research scholar at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C.; in June 2004, he was a visiting fellow at Oxford University.
A specialist on the Italian anti-fascist Resistance and Italian Jews, he is the author of Carlo Rosselli: Socialist Heretic and Antifascist Exile (Harvard University Press, 1999), which won the 2000 International "Ignazio Silone" Prize as well as the Lawrence Stessin Prize for Outstanding Faculty Publication at Hofstra University.
